IPAF MAST CLIMBER - Operator

  • Mast Climbing Work Platforms ( MCWP) are increasingly being used in the construction industry as temporary working places giving variable height access to specific areas of structures above ground level. 
  • In many cases they are more convenient to use that other forms of access equipment such as ladders, scaffolding, staging or suspended cradles (swing stage)
  • Training is available  on client premises - provided you have suitable facilities and number of delegates.
  • To provide instructions to a Trainee that will enable him/her to become a qualified Operator of various types of Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP), including safe use practices and knowledge regarding the potential hazards associated with use as well as methods to avoid known hazards post familiarisation. The successful completion of this will lead to the granting of an IPAF MCWP Operator Licence. training and assessment of the required modules would take ½ day including theory and practical sessions.
  • You will need to bring suitable PPE including safety footwear, a hard hat and a hi-visibility vest or coat. You should wear suitable clothing; some training may take place outside.

  • Successful delegates will gain understanding of current relevant legislation and regulations, accident prevention & control, needs regarding personnel protection, pre-use inspection,  the need to refer to machine operating manuals  order to position and carry out the required tasks in line with approved methods and the manufacturer's instructions.

    This course consists of an instructor led training room presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    You may be refused entry onto the course practical if you do not have the appropriate PPE

  • To provide instructions to a Trainee that will enable him/her to become a qualified Operator of various types of Mast Climbing Work Platforms (MCWP), including safe use practices and knowledge regarding the potential hazards associated with use as well as methods to avoid known hazards post familiarisation. The successful completion of this, combined with evidence listed in 4.2.2 above, will lead to the granting of an IPAF MCWP Operator Licence.

Delegates should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights, vertigo, giddiness, difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.

Delegates must be able to read and understand safety notices, course literature, test questions and answers, manufacturer’s technical literature and follow verbal instructions. 

If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension or have any doubts about your fitness to use an MCWP, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MCWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have. We may be able to arrange for a translator to be available to you during your training by prior arrangement, please ask for details if you feel you may require this level of assistance.
