6160-01 Level 2 Award in Working in Low Risk Confined Spaces

Course Details

Introduction

A low-risk confined space typically has unobstructed access and is made up of a simple configuration. Such spaces include stairwells, pub cellars, valve chambers and pumping stations, that pose no threat of flooding and have adequate natural or mechanical ventilation.

The City and Guild’s Level 2 Award in Working in Low-Risk Confined Spaces Course equips candidates with the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely in classified low-risk confined spaces. Delegates will learn and understand the procedures and equipment they require to perform their daily tasks safely while keeping in line with industry standards and regulations.

Course Outline

This course aims to educate delegates with material that reflects the national occupational standard (NOS) for a low-risk related confined space environment - the NC1 classification.

reasonably physically demanding course, a high proportion of the learning and assessment is practical exercises, including confined space entry. The practical elements are then supplemented with classroom-based tutorials to prepare delegates for a final examination of their learnings.

Our course-specific trainers will take delegates through the process to finish with a practical observation and short answer question paper assessment, of which they must pass both to gain the qualification.

Course Programme

In this comprehensive course, delegates will extensively cover preparing to enter and work safely in a low-risk environment, entering and exiting confined spaces safely, using equipment and tools, following procedures, and dealing with emergencies.

More specifically, the practical and theoretical learnings delegates will learn equips them to;

  • Understand the relevant and current low-risk confined space legislation
  • Recognise and classify a low-risk confined space
  • Produce safe systems of work for entry into low-risk confined spaces
  • Know how to correctly and safely use atmospheric monitoring equipment
  • Recognise diseases and understand the necessary personal hygiene requirements associated with low-risk confined spaces
On Completion

At the end of this course, delegates that pass will be able to confidently know;

  • The dangers associated with low-risk confined space working
  • How to risk assess a low-risk confined space
  • How to classify a low-risk confined space
  • How to undertake pre-entry checks on equipment
  • Correct and safe use of atmospheric monitoring equipment
  • The necessary manning levels - delegates must understand and be able to implement lone working procedures
  • Why there is a need for periodic examinations of equipment
  • The emergency procedures when working in a low-risk confined space
Who Should Attend?

This City & Guilds Level 2 award for 6160-01 is for anyone working in a classified low-risk environment, who is over 16 years of age and is medically fit to take the qualification - a requirement in line with current industry regulations.

Course Duration

In a one day course, participants are trained and ready to work quickly, safely and effectively in low-risk confined spaces on completion and certification.
