Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)
Course Details
The emergency first aid at work course is for you if you are seeking a role as an emergency first aider in the workplace or if you need to refresh your existing first aid qualification and competence.
All organisations are required to provide for first aid requirements in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) First Aid Regulations 1981 and where a need is identified through a risk assessment. This training course meets HSE specifications and provides individuals with the knowledge and skills to operate as Emergency First Aider’s enabling them to deliver prompt and effective primary treatment to casualties and where necessary deal with an emergency situation until such times as more experienced first aiders’s or the emergency services arrive.
training programme utilises a variety of teaching techniques to meet the needs of individuals and upon completion delegates will have a greater understanding of the requirements in delivering emergency first aid at work to the appropriate level.
Course Content
- Casualty Incident Management: including the need for recording and reporting
- Situational Awareness and Assessment: enabling individuals to act safely, effectively and promptly in an emergency
- Casualty Examination
- Unconscious casualties
- Adult basic life support
- Control of Bleeding
- Choking
- Strains and Sprains
- Treating shock
- Limb immobilisation
- Other illnesses: including seizure
- The provision of appropriate first aid for minor injuries: small cuts, bruises, minor burns and scalds, etc
Delegates will be continuously assessed throughout the course by the tutor and will undertake a short multiple-choice exam. Upon successful completion a certificate with a validity of three years will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria. Delegates are reminded however that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) strongly recommend that all first aiders undergo an annual refresher programme of at least three hours.
This Emergency First Aid Refresher course is aimed at people aged 16+ who could be in a position to attend to someone who becomes ill or injured while at work.
The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 places the onus on employers to provide the appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to ensure their employees receive immediate attention. Therefore, this course is suitable for organisations that have identified a requirement for someone to hold a current emergency first aid at work qualification or someone who needs to refresh their current emergency first aid certificate.

Online training is also beneficial due to being flexible and cost-effective — attendees can work at their own pace at a time that is suitable for them.
