IPAF Operator - PAV

Training generally lasts 4 hours and is a mixture of theory and practice. 

Training is available at one of our training venues or on client premises - provided you have suitable facilities and number of delegates.

Our IPAF PAV Operator Course deliver a minimum of 4 hours of instruction and is designed to provide training to prepare and safely operate PAV's the workplace. 

Courses held at our Essex training centre include your IPAF registration fee, and all handouts. In addition, we provide free hot and cold drinks,  and free parking.

You will need to bring suitable PPE including safety footwear, a hard hat and a hi-visibility vest or coat. You should wear suitable clothing; some training may take place outside.

Successful delegates will gain understanding of current relevant legislation and regulations, accident prevention & control, needs regarding personnel protection, pre-use inspection,  the need to refer to machine operating manuals and the manoeuvring of the PAV safely in order to position and carry out the required tasks in line with approved methods and the manufacturer's instructions.

This course consists of an instructor led training room presentation, written assessment, practical training and assessment.

You may be refused entry onto the course practical if you do not have the appropriate PPE

Successful delegates will gain an understanding of current relevant legislation and be able to carry out a pre-use inspection and most importantly use them safely, in line with current approved methods and manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Course Evaluation and Log Book Completion

Those who successfully complete both the theory and practical sessions will receive a photographic IPAF PAL card and A4 Certificate that is valid for a period of 5 years.

Combining your PAL card with existing categories

Those who have already successfully completed an IPAF Operator Course may have other operator categories or the IPAF Harness user and Inspection category (H) added to the PAL Card. If you hold a currently 3a licence it is not possible to add the PAV to this and will require a separate registration Please speak directly to the training department for information. 

Licence Renewal

A PAV licence can be renewed by taking the full course with theory test and practical, or by taking a re-familiarisation if in conjunction with 3a renewal

Delegates should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights, vertigo, giddiness, difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness.

Delegates must be able to read and understand safety notices, course literature, test questions and answers, manufacturer’s technical literature and follow verbal instructions. 

If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension or have any doubts about your fitness to use a PAV you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using a PAV provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have. We may be able to arrange for a translator to be available to you during your training by prior arrangement, please ask for details if you feel you may require this level of assistance.
