OPERATOR (with Instructor Led Theory) WEEKDAY

Course Details

This training course is aimed at individuals with previous operating experience who are or will be responsible for using MEWPS (Mobile Elevated Work Platforms) in the workplace. If operatives have little or no experience, additional practice time may be required, please speak to our training department team for details.

Successful delegates will gain understanding of current relevant legislation and regulations, accident prevention & control, needs regarding personnel protection, pre-use inspection, the need to refer to machine operating manuals and the driving/manoeuvring of MEWPs safely in order to position and carry out the required tasks in line with approved methods and the manufacturer's instructions.

Courses held at our training centres include your IPAF registration fee, and digital certification* (ePal) through the new IPAF App All handouts. In addition, we provide free hot and cold drinks, and free parking.

You are able to add categories to this qualification

If the course you have booked is the Instructor led course it also consists of an instructor led training room presentation, written assessment or eLearning module with assessment incorporated, and practical training and assessment carried out at our centre or on your premises by arrangement. When booking you will be able to select your chosen method for your theory session. We also offer test papers in a range of languages, please ask your instructor for details

  • Introduction to IPAF and MEWPs
  • Pre-theory test
  • Legislations, Regulations, Standards and Best Practice
  • MEWP categories explained
  • Structural parts identified
  • Pre-use inspection/handover requirements
  • Safe operating methods and hazards to be observed
  • Post-theory test
  • Practical training on selected categories
  • Practical assessment on selected categories

If the course you have booked is with the theory to be completed with an online eLearning module

IPAF's enhanced e-learning module is part of its flexible training programme for mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs). The training has been created to allow delegates to gain and develop the required knowledge outside of the classroom, this module takes around three hours to complete and is broken down into manageable sections including interactive videos, games, quizzes and simulations, you can complete at your own pace, save and resume at any time.

This takes the place of the Instructor led theory

IPAF eLearning leaflet is available here

The course is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.

(Compatible with PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones on any modern internet browser, a device with a camera is required.)

To check that your device will support the IPAF E-learning please click here.

You will be sent an email to begin your eLearning training

At the end of your eLearning you will need to complete a pre-theory test On successful completion you will receive an e-receipt confirming your achievement.

Completing the e-learning alone does not qualify you as an operator; trainees must also successfully complete a minimum of a half- day of practical training and testing before being issued with a PAL Licence as proof of their qualification of IPAF Operator training.

IPAF MEWPS for Managers is also offered as an eLearning course competed fully online

IPAF MEWPS for Managers Leaflet is available here

PLEASE NOTE: You may be refused entry onto the course practical if you do not complete the elearning.

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive an IPAF Certificate and Powered Access Licence (PAL) now on the ePAL app, valid for 5 years. Option to upgrade to receive physical card is available during your booking.

PAL Cards via the new ePAL app

What is ePAL?

Watch here
IPAF’s ePAL app is your new digital wallet to store and share your IPAF powered access licences and qualifications, including the PAL Card for mobile elevating work platform (MEWP), Mast climbing work platform (MCWP) and hoist operators. Competent Assessed Persons (CAP), MEWPs for Managers, Site Assessment (for MEWP Selection) all can be added. Easily record your operating experience on powered access machines through the digital logbook, giving you an overview of the time spent operating multiple machines. Have the latest powered access safety and best practice tips and advice in your pocket and get access to your operator safety guide or site safety guide based on your linked licences.

What are the benefits?
ePAL is highly convenient for operators and their employers – licences, qualifications and practical experience are easily shared from the operator’s phone giving peace-of-mind in light of safety and security. Digital PAL Cards are also fraud smart and benefit from the extra security provided by a mobile phone’s log-in measures. ePAL provides operators with access to the latest in safety information and best practice to help them be safer in their workplace.

FAQ

Combining existing categories

Those who have already successfully completed an IPAF Operator Course may have other operator categories or the IPAF Harness user and Inspection category  Please speak directly to the training department to discuss this option.

You will need to bring suitable PPE including safety footwear, a hard hat and a hi-visibility vest or coat. You should wear suitable clothing; some training may take place outside.

Where harnesses are necessary (normally with any boom-type machine) we can either lend you one on the day, or you can purchase one at a discounted rate, contact the training department for details. Please note, our training harnesses are available in standard sizes, if you feel a standard size would be unsuitable, please contact our training team to discuss your options before attending the centre. 0333 666 1881

PLEASE NOTE: You may be refused entry onto the course practical if you do not have the appropriate PPE

As the safe use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) requires that you consult safety notices and read and thoroughly understand the manufacturer’s instruction manual, literacy and language comprehension are important requirements for any MEWP user. Similarly, as the assembly and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness. If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension or have any doubts about your fitness to use MEWPs, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MEWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures to take account of any difficulties you may have.

We also offer test papers in a range of languages, please ask your instructor for details

We offer a 50% discount on IPAF Harness User and Inspection course, when registering together with your IPAF Operator training, check here for dates or give us a call for availability and activate the offer.
